I'm starting a tech tip of the week on our video announcements on Fridays and I thought screencast would be AWESOME to show some of the techie stuff I would like to share with all the staff and students in the school.
Today was my debut! I didn't use screencast for this week's tip but it was a nervous, fumbling start. The crew sent to film me were also beginners so it was not phenomenal, just informative. I printed out a picture of the Dropbox and showed it on camera while I talked about why I think it's cool and everyone should have it...
Then I thought about next week. Next week, I'll show off Quizlet and I'll use the screencast I created using the program Aaron uses, Screenr. I found it to be very easy to use and it has so many options for me afterwards like
- embed
- URL
- share
- download
- publish to YouTube
This is the one I created:
However, I failed to mention that a couple of students approached me afterwards and suggested I use them as my filming crew so that my "library corner" show wouldn't be so boring...This would mean that I probably won't use this screen cast on the video announcement next week BUT I will post it onto my library blog so that anyone can go there and watch it for more details :)
For us TL's, my show also includes a book of the week. This week's book is LEGEND by Marie Lu:
Well done! A good screencast for your peers to check out! A couple of suggestions, one, it might be good to invest in a new microphone, as there was a little buzzing and feedback throughout the video. Also, when screencasting, try to select the smallest amount of your screen possible, so that the video has the clearest and sharpest picture. I would select just the browser window to record, rather than your entire screen (with your start menu along the bottom). But overall, good demonstration of your learning and I think being on your school's weekly tv announcements is great!
ReplyDeleteI love your Book of the Week idea - what a great way to highlight good reads for students. If you have not featured them yet, I would suggest Divergent and Insurgent by Veronica Roth. They are the first 2 books in her trilogy (book 3 is due out next year) and they are an exciting read. I would highly recommend them. ~ Fiona
ReplyDeleteAgain I learned something new. The Screenr is a great way to share your tech tip of the week. Quizlet looks like a wonderful site for studying. I'm going to show some teachers and students and see what they think. Thanks for a wonderful blog!
ReplyDeleteGreat job using Screenr! I tried Jing and it was not as easy to use. My laptop did not like it very much (took too long to load and wouldn't record any audio). I found Screenr very easy, and I especially liked it because there was nothing to download; it was all out there on the web.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of tech tip of the week. We have started something we call "tech talks" in our library. We plan on having it every two months or so, and it's basically an opportunity for staff to come into the library at lunch and listen to a short presentation about an application or tool, then some time to "play" with it on the ipads or computers. I think sending a screencast out to staff after the talk would be helpful, like your tech tip.
thanks for sharing!
